Rudranath Temple Opening and Closing Date 2023: Rudranath is the highly admired and respected temple of Lord Shiva which is adorned in the Garhwal Himalayas. Rudranath Temple is the fourth temple in the Panch Kedar pilgrimage. It is huddled inside the rhododendron forests and the alpine meadows. One can start the trek to Rudranath temple either from Sagar village, Helang or Urgam village. It is the most toughest temple to reach as compared to the other temples of Panch Kedar. The Himalayan peaks adding to the glory of Rudranath are Trishul and Nanda Ghunti, Nanda Devi.

Rudranath temple walking trek is a total of 24 kilometres, this trek needs at least two days to complete. In the Rudranath temple, the mouth of Lord Shiva is worshipped. It is believed that Rudranath is the only Shiva temple where the mouth of Lord Shiva is worshipped.

Rudranath palanquin

Rudranath Temple is open to visit by devotees only for a brief period of time i.e. 06 months. Rudranath Temple is closed for visiting from November to May due to high snowfall during the winter season. Rudranath’s palanquin is placed to the Gopinath temple in Gopeshwar during the winter season.

When Rudranath’s palanquin is again put back to the temple during the summer season, Rudra Nath’s Doli reaches Pitrudhar through the way of Luty Bugyal and Panar. Pooja is performed, where people worship the ancestors at Pitrudhar, after which the doli crosses the Dhalbani plain and finally reaches the Rudranath Mandir.

When the doli reaches Rudranath, a pooja is performed in the temple where vanadevi is worshipped first. It is said that Vandevi protects Rudranath Mandir and its surrounding area. Every year, a fair is also organized at Rudranath Temple. As per the Hindu calendar, a huge fair also takes place at the time of Shravan Purnima (July-August). This annual fair mostly held during Raksha Bandhan, residents take part in this fair every year.

While trekking you can also go to wonderful Panar and Lyuti Bugyal and various kunds such as Surya kund, Tara, kund, Manas kund and Chandra Kund.

Ways to Reach Rudranath Temple 2023

  • By Air – The nearest airport to reach Rudranath Temple is Jolly Grant Airport which is located in Dehradun. Rudranath Mandir is located in Gopeshwar- Kedarnath Road. Buses and taxis are easily available from Dehradun to Gopeshwar.
  • By Train– Through Rishikesh, Haridwar and Kedarnath, you can reach Rudranath Temple as it is located on Gopeshwar-Kedarnath Road. From Gopeshwar, the nearest railway station is Rishikesh. You can take taxis and buses from Rishikesh to reach Gopeshwar.
  • By Road– Rudranath Mandir is at Gopeshwar- Kedarnath Road. So, from Rishikesh you have to go to Sagar Village first. After that, you need to do a 20 km trek to reach Rudranath from Sagar which is the nearest way possible.

Accomodations in Rudranath Temple 2023

There are very few options to stay around Rudranath Temple except the simple accommodation which is managed by the Mandir committee and few home stays. However, you can get good accommodation options in Sagar, Urgam, Panar, Lyuti Bugyal. You can also stay in tents or camps near Rudranath Temple which can be a whole new experience for the visitors.
