Those candidates who wish to get enrolled in the universities/ institutes of foreign countries, need to take part and qualify for TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language). TOEFL scores are accepted by North American Universities. It is organized to test candidates’ proficiency in the English language and their understanding of North American English. Aspirants are required to apply for TOEFL by registration through the official portal. There are four available courses for appeal, i.e. via email, website, by calling up, and physically visiting at the TOEFL test registration center. The exam commencement date generally releases 7 days before the commencement of the exam.

Eligibility Requirements

The examination is open for all the candidates and there are no definite eligibility criteria set by the authority of TOEFL. The respective institutes, which candidates want to take admission have set their own eligibility criteria. However, candidates don’t need to have any specific eligibility criteria to appear for TOEFL.

TOEFL 2023 Application Form

Aspirants can do the registration in two different ways. The following points regarding the TOEFL Application Process are given below:

  • Candidates will have to register through the online mode via the official website i.e. www.ets.org.
  • Apart from this, there are other registration modes too such as phone and email.
  • It is important for the candidates to provide each and every detail as asked in the application form.
  • The registration fee will be $170 (in Indian currency it will be around Rs. 11,000 to 11,500).

TOEFL Exam Pattern

  • This test is usually conducted to determine the understanding of candidates in English language and North American English. Non-native speakers are also eligible to participate in the exam.
  • According to the examination pattern of TOEFL, there will be 4 sections namely, Reading, Writing, Writing, and Speaking.
  • The result and scores of the TOEFL will be published online after 10 days of the commencement of the TOEFL.

Exam Syllabus

Reading:

In this section, there will be 3-4 passages and candidates have to answer 10 questions per passage. The scores will depend on the number of correct reading and comprehension responses.

Listening:

In the listening section, candidates would hear short/long conversations.

After the short conversation, the candidate would be asked one question (MCQ). After the long conversations, there will be MCQs based on played conversations.

Speaking:

In the speaking section, candidates have to fulfil various criteria according to pronunciation, enunciation, and flow.

The section will be a task of 17 minutes.

Writing:

For the writing section, candidates will be asked to write an essay to score the maximum number of marks. Must ensure you have followed the below-mentioned points.

Candidates must write essays using relevant and current examples and detailed support which should display a structure, a rhythm, and progression, with its content being centered on the topic or theme given.

Proper vocabulary and word usage with minor grammatical errors should be there.

TOEFL 2023 Cut-off

The participating universities have not set any minimum passing marks for the TOEFL exam. Therefore, the institution decides its own minimum required score or score range. There is no such thing as the cut-off. However, a few top universities or Ivy- league schools basically seat a high score above 79 (it may change each year).
