UPSC ESE 2024: IES Application Form, Eligibility Criteria, Vacancies, Exam Pattern

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the competent authority that organizes the Engineering Services Exam every year for the eligible candidates. This exam will recruit qualified candidates under the department of Indian Engineering Service. The IES-qualified candidates work under the Government of India and are categorized as Class-1 officers. Eligibility Requirements

Academic Qualification:

  • Candidates should have completed their graduation in engineering from a recognized university to be eligible for the post of Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam.
  • Applicants should have passed the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers’ Graduate Membership Examination (India).
  • Appearing individual possessing an engineering degree/ diploma from a foreign university/college/institution are also eligible.
  • A candidate who has taken and passed an examination but has not yet acquired the results may apply for admission to the examination.

Age Limit:

  • The age of the applicant should be between 21 years to 30 years.

UPSC ESE 2024 Application Form

The application form will be available online mode at the official website of the Union Public Service Commission- www.upsconline.nic.in. Candidates can visit this authorized website and register for the exam by providing the basic details. While filling up the application form, candidates will be asked to provide all their necessary educational, personal, and contact details as provided in their official documents. Along with the details, applicants will also have to upload scanned copies of their passport size photograph and signature in the given prescriptions.

Application Fee

The application form will not be accepted unless the applicant makes the payment of the prescribed application fee. The candidates can pay the charges using any of the options such as Master/ Visa / RuPay Credit/ Debit Card or SBI internet banking or by cash at any branch of SBI.

Pattern of Exam

The complete recruitment process of IES is divided into three stages:

  • Stage-I: (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type Papers) for the selection of candidates for Stage-II.
  • Stage-II: Engineering Services (Main) Examination
  • Personality Test

Preliminary Examination: The IES Prelims will be held through pen and paper-based methods. The prelims test will have a total of two papers. Both the papers will include Multiple-choice questions. Additionally, there will be a deduction of one-third of points for each incorrect answer.

Main Examination: This stage will have a total of two papers. Questions will be set from the Engineering subject (Civil Engineering/ Electrical/ Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering) in both papers. Negative marks will not be applicable in Mains papers.

UPSC ESE 2024 Results

The applicants who appear in the exam will be able to check their results from the official website of UPSC- www.upsc.gov.in. , therefore there won’t be another way to check the result. Aspirants can download the result in the form of a PDF file. The candidates have to look for their names in the PDF file in order to know whether they have cleared the exam.

After the result declaration, nominated candidates will be asked to produce their original documents for the verification at the time of the Interview only. The successful candidates will be able to download their interview letters from the authorized website of UPSC.
